Fred Kaufman, a retired Judge of the Quebec Court of Appeal, passed away in early January. Fred’s remarkable life, from fleeing Austria as a refugee from the Nazis to time in an interment camp in New Brunswick as an ‘enemy alien’ , to law school, law practice and the Court of Appeal is chronicled in a 2005 Osgoode Society book, Searching for Justice: An Autobiography.   A short version can be found in Alan Freeman, ‘Esteemed Jurist Fred Kaufman Led Two High-Profile Wrongful Conviction Inquiries’, Globe and Mail, 11 January 2024.
