The Osgoode Society will be having a series of evening legal history lecture events which will be held over Zoom. Please register for each event to receive Zoom login information.


Jim Phillips on Wednesday February 28th.Jim Phillips is Professor of Law and History at the University of Toronto, and Editor-in-Chief of the Osgoode Society. He will speak about the book he is currently writing, a socio-legal history of women’s status, marriage breakdown, civil litigation and parliamentary divorce in Ontario in the 1870s.

    Ian Binnie on Wednesday, May 1st. Former Supreme Court of Canada judge Ian Binnie will talk to the Osgoode Society about four prominent litigators whose careers include Canadian legal history from Confederation to the present: Oliver Mowat, W.N. Tilley, J.J. Robinette, and Ian Scott.

      Patricia McMahon on Wednesday May 15 , at 5.30. Professor McMahon is a Professor at Osgoode Hall Law School and the Director of the Oral History Programme of the Osgoode Society.  she will talk about her research into the history of common law and equity in the nineteenth century.
