Research Support Programme
The Society runs two research support programmes. Our Small Grants Programme is available to support small research grant requests (usually under $3,000) for those undertaking research in the history of Canadian law. There are no application forms. Applicants should write to the Society, describing their project and including a budget, a curriculum vitae, and the names of two referees. The deadline for requests to be considered at our spring Board meeting is March 31st. The deadline for our September Board meeting is August 31st. Money granted in a calendar year needs to be spent in the same calendar year. Thus grants made in the spring must be expended the same year. Grants made in September can be for either the same calendar year, or the following one, but not both.
The Society also offers a Graduate Student Assistance Programme, whose purpose is to assist graduate students doing research in Canadian legal history to travel to out-of-town archives. The maximum grant is unlikely to exceed $1,000. There are no application forms. Applicants should write to the Society, describing their project and including a budget, a curriculum vitae, and a letter of support from the student's supervisor.
