The new Harmonized Sales Tax applies in Ontario. We are now required to collect this on Osgoode Society memberships. As a result the cost of ordinary memberships for Ontario residents is now $48.43. The cost for individual sustaining memberships is $155.58.
(Previously ordinary memberships were 42.85 plus 2.15 GST, for a total of $45. The 8% sales tax is calculated on the 42.85).
Outside of Ontario, some provinces have not introduced the HST, and thus Osgoode Society ordinary memberships remain at $45 ($152.15 for individual sustaining memberships). This is the case for Alberta, Manitoba, Prince Edward Island, Quebec, and Saskatchewan.
Other provinces have introduced the HST.
* New Brunswick, Newfoundland and Labrador, have introduced it at the same rate as Ontario, so the cost of ordinary memberships for those resident in those provinces is $48.43, and for individual sustaining memberships it is $155.58.
* For British Columbians, the cost of ordinary membership is now $48, of individual sustaining membership is $155.15.
* For Nova Scotians, the cost of ordinary membership is now $49.28, and the individual sustaining membership is $156.43.
Student Memberships
The same new rules apply to student memberships. But because the differences are so small we have set these at $21.50 for all provinces.
